CATHIE TRAVERS & GLENN ROGERS + SPECIAL GUESTS.
Divine Gypsy Jazz. Accomplished accordionist Cathie Travers and guitarist Glenn Rogers develop a deep gypsy jazz connection when performing the music of greats such as Astor Pizzolla, Richard Galliano, Bireli Lagrene and Egberto Gismonti and their own original compositions. They perform stunning virtuosic repertoire pieces, but also gentle sophisticated ballads in the French cafe style. For this KULCHA performance they will venture into new territory, introducing electronic loops, delays and konokol and experimenting with new voices and textures. This will be a deep and divine gypsy jazz communication between two of WA's great jazz artists.

THE UPSETTER + DJ ASWON KULCHA MICRO-CINEMA
Reggae Legend Revealed. KULCHA has secured the WA premiere screening of the extraordinary new documentary on the father of reggae - Lee 'Scratch' Perry. The Upsetter tells the fascinating story of Perry, an eccentric genius from poor rural Jamaica who pioneered the dub and reggae music genres. He was a mentor to Bob Marley and an inspiration to artists such as The Clash and Paul McCartney. Narrated by Benicio Del Toro, the documentary charts 70 years in the life of Perry in his own words through an exclusive interview given to American filmmakers, Ethan Higbee and Adam Bhala Lough. It is equally a documentation of Jamaican music and culture. Acknowledging the Jamaican Independence Day will be DJ Aswon playing sets before and after the screening. www.theupsettermovie.com

TOBIAS MOLDENHAUER + MITCH BECKER Independent Voices
Worldly travelled Queensland-based singer songwriter Tobias Moldenhauer is touring to WA to promote his latest album, Live At The Red Shed, produced with Giuseppe Vizzone (of the ARIA Award winning Seaman Dan). His solo performances feature acoustic guitar, bottleneck slide resonator guitar, Hawaiian lap steel and explore different genres, with their roots in the blues. Mitch Becker's unnerving ability on acoustic guitar is like the Bermuda Triangle to a sailor, a Flamenco dancer to a wooden floor, or simply your mother's love. Boasting a stellar fleet of musicians - Jean-Guy Lemire on harmonica, Roy Martinez on bass and Andrew Pearson on drums - his stomping blues band is sure to get your heart pumping.

Inspired by improvisational master, Bobby McFerrin, Nicola Milan, along with Ben "Piano King" Clarke, Naomi Tan and Rohan Nelson, bring a mix of improvised melodies fused with original moody blues and jazz music to KULCHA. Fresh from her coaching with acclaimed New York jazz singer, Chris McNulty, Nicola has been likened to an Astrud Gilberto and Doris Day martini with a splash of Tracy Chapman. She will be lending her velvety, mellow vocals to this line-up of talented local musicians as they treat you to an evening of spontaneity and creative delight.

KEMIA ENSEMBLE WITH DARAMAD QUARTET The Art of Persia
Prepare for a night of Persian music creatively inspired by the mystical incendiary poetry of the legendary Rumi, over many centuries one of Persia's primary cultural lodestones. Kemia are three young Iranian-born, Perth-based musicians committed to exploring the depths of their classical musical inheritance. Daramad present the work of Middle Eastern contemporary composers, traditional folk melodies, plus their own compositions. Including English interpretations of the poetry, the combined musical collaboration will make this a night of unforgettable subtlety and intensity, as beautifully heart-rending as the poems of their inspiration.
