MASONIK - WITH INTENSO & MATT RÖNER

MASONIK With their debut release imminent, Masonik return to KULCHA to present their unique sonic and visual experience with live dub, multi-projection VJing, improvised ambient drone and deconstructed jazz. Sound artist Matt Röner will open the evening and Intenso will chew through dark chordal landscapes, preaching a message of dirty improvised funk.

RUPERT GUENTHER Classical violinist, Rupert Guenther, is known for his spellbinding concerts performed entirely through improvisation and his intuitive, clear and results-orientated teaching approaches to music, sacred sound and personal development. A guest professor at several European conservatoriums, he has performed around the world for 25 years and listed by Melbourne's The Age as one of the top 100 contributors to culture in 2008.

KRZYSZTOF AND SELEPAK Krzysztof Piotrowicz and Mardae Selepak are one of West Australia's leading guitar duos, performing music from South America and Eastern Europe's Roma Gypsy culture. They play various guitars including Classical, Acoustic, 19th century Romantic and Krzysztof's unique Russian 7 string. Both musicians have recently progressed to the final round of the prestigious Australian International guitar competition. Always popular at KULCHA, the duo promise another virtuosic and expressive guitar performance.

PHILIP EVERALL Possibly one of the most versatile bass clarinettists of his generation, Philip Everall presents a fun and interesting look at the more recent repertoire for his instrument in the electronic realm - from ambient soundscapes, to eastern rhythms and melodies, to rough-edged funk. Philip has performed in venues such as The Berlin Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall and Clancy's Fish Pub. To close this show, Philip will be joined by a string quartet of Perth's finest musicians, led by Shaun Lee-Chen for a seldom-heard performance of Osvaldo Golijov's Klezmer epic, The Dreams And Prayers Of Isaac The Blind.

NAAD

NAAD NAAD means 'sound' in the ancient language of Sanskrit. In this context NAAD is an amalgamation of Jazz and classical Indian music born out of an inter-cultural collaboration between Balvinder Singh (sitar, sarangi) and Glenn Rogers (guitar) through the Australia Council's national Jump National Mentorship Program. The pair will be accompanied by tabla maestro Gurpreet Singh for a night of intimate and experimental acoustic sounds
