SUDAN: WAITING FOR THE FUTURE - Visual Arts Exhibition
In late 2004, three photo-journalists lived in the Kakuma refugee camp in the North Kenyan desert where 60,000 Sudanese people have sought refuge. Photographing the movement of people from the world's longest running civil war to the refugee camp in Kenya and then to the safety and protection of Melbourne, Australia, these photojournalists have compiled over 100 images that show the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Money raised from this exhibition will be equally split between the Bursary Program of the Sudanese Australian Integrated Learning (SAIL) Program and the Cultural Preservation Project of the Sudanese Online Research Association (SORA). The SAIL Program is Australia's largest Sudanese-specific service provider. It provides free community services and English support to the Sudanese refugee community in Melbourne. SORA is an online library of resources about Sudan and the Sudanese Diaspora. It is also the sole online publisher of academic research about Sudanese communities living outside of Sudan, visit www.sora.akm.net.au Weekdays 10am - 4pm FREE Entry
