BISSEROV SISTERS

The Voice of Bulgaria
Bulgaria's most famous female traditional singing family from the Pirin Mountains, a region famous for its dynamic folk instrumentalists, fast paced dances and astounding female vocal music. Their reportoire comprises of folktales, women, wedding, harvest and festive songs. They perform acapella with darabuka drum and tempura (an eight string lute).
|
Brought up in the village culture the elder Bisserov sisters (Lybimka, Neda and Mitra) formed a professional singing group twenty five years ago and in 2003 received the highest cultural recognition for their services to Bulgarian - the" Golden Medal" from the Bulgarian Union of Musicians and Dancers. They are regarded as 'National Treasures'. The music like the region is a meeting point of the East and West and the vocal music is often very poetic and haunting.
The Sisters always perform in beautiful Bulgarian costume with superbly coloured aprons, scarves, dresses, coin jewelry, embroidery, belts, socks and leather dance-shoes. This is a cultural experience not to be missed!
