ZIGGY BEY JAN GROUP Senegalese Sounds Ziggy Bey Jan, singer and percussionist extraordinaire from Senegal, has played and toured internationally for 10 years in the Baaba Maal band as a drummer, dancer and choreographer before settling in Perth. Ziggy is a master of the sabar drums and the tama (talking drum), and a gifted singer. He blends his traditional styles with the sounds of modern funk and fusion. Band members include Ilan Zagoria, African style guitarist from Zimbabwe, who has played his unique style of guitar all over the world for over 20 years, as well as being a founding member of multi award winning Perth world music groups- African Music Congress and Sundiata Marimba Band. Troy Gennoe, Australian bassist, a graduate from the Perth Conservatorium of Music and an ex member of African Music Congress. Shane Kearney (percussion), Robert Binell (kit drums), Alex Borthwich (lead guitar) and Derek Rucki (keyboards) all add their expertise to this awesome ensemble. |

SHANGARA JIVE CD Launch Shangara Jive launch their EP ÒPlay With Fire". This 8 piece high power dance band offers an array of sounds from traditional Zimbabwean ÔShona' ritual music to the contemporary sounds of Kwassa Kwass, Jit, Dancehall, Roots Reggae and Sukus creating a funky and upbeat dance groove to keep you movin'. Shangara Jive is a blend of both African and Western musicians who have merged their talents to create an exciting and dynamic experience of world music. The group features Zimbabwean born George Joe (songwriter, lyrics, percussionist), an accomplished drummer who has worked extensively with fellow Zimbabwean musicians including Thomas Mapfumo and Stella Chiweshe. He is a former African Music Congress member and four times WAMI World Music Award winner. |
