Pete Stone + Gina Williams DOUBLE WAMI Standout winners of the 2003 Western Australian Music Industry Awards (WAMI) Pete Stone and Gina Williams team up in a special double bill to showcase their remarkable musical talents. One of the most unique and critically acclaimed alternative country songwriters in Australia, Pete has been likened to Aussie greats Paul Kelly and Nick Cave. Following a swag of national tours and a win as the Most Popular Country Act at the 2003 WAMI's, Pete Stone offers an intimate evening of new songs - upbeat urban tales with a new country feel. This double bill would not be complete without the soulful, sweet and sassy Noongar Chanteuse Gina Williams who returns from her recent win as Most Popular Indigenous Act at the 2003 WAMI's. Gina was also a headlining artist at the Indigenous Arts Showcase for the Perth International Arts Festival in 2003. In the past she has played support to the likes of Wendy Matthews, Joe Camilleri, Archie Roach and Dave Steele. Her warm vocal tones always rise to the occasion and the tight band displays a talent way beyond the ordinary. Very jazzy, very smooth, very cool! Oh what a night - this will be all things to everyone! |

Chris Smither On The Outside Looking In - INTERNATIONAL AMERICAN A master white contemporary bluesman; with his feet, his guitar and a deep and alluring baritone vocal, Chris Smither is a proud carrier of a true American tradition. Smither's repertoire includes masterful arrangements of some of the classic African American blues tunes and original songs which display a wry, deep and intellectual look at the world. One of his best new songs "on the outside looking in" epitomises this position. On this, his third visit to Australia, Chris will be performing songs from his 11th recording 'Train Home' - his first studio recording in four years. A superb piece of work, you won't hear a rhythm loop, sample, false note or a hint of false emotion, just pure music, born of wisdom and tempered in the fire of live performance. |
