The talents of emerging Indigenous musicians will be showcased in an evening presented by the ABMUSIC Aboriginal and Islander Music College.     A night in the Andes
    Highly acclaimed Andean music group Los Chasquis return to KULCHA with their blend of traditional South American tunes. Recognised as some of Perth's finest world musicians, Los Chasquis guitar and charango rhythms to accompany their trademark haunting wind melodies. The total effect is evocative of the splendour of the Andean mountains and people - Los Chasquis leaves no heart untouched and no spirit uninspired.

    Ana Santos Soares Afro Brazilian Dance workshop

    Workshop
    A descendant of the West African slaves, Ana Santos Soares is from the Northern Brazilian state of Bahai. Her distinctive dance style draws heavily on the rites of Candomble, the religion of Southern Nigeria, blended with the Portugese influences of the New World. This workshop will focus on samba, latin street spiritual dances, and the traditional life of Brazil. Whilst in Perth, Ana will conduct two workshops only: wed 3 @ Ausdance & tues 9 @ KULCHA . Bookings are essential and close the day before. Tickets cost $22 for non members, and $17 for KULCHA and Ausdance members.

    African drumming group Dunumba has just returned from a highly successful regional tour - join KULCHA in welcoming them back with a night of vibrant drumming, song and dance. Experience the spirit of African culture at its best as the group journeys through the music of Guinea, Mali, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Nothing is more exiting than the sound of African drummers, and Dunumba are some of the best!

    The Rhythm of the Heart
    A special performance
    For 'Yindili Cultural Arts and Healing Sanctuary in Cape York'. Performances by Zaida (Zi-ee-dah) which means abundance. A group of 9 women performing powerful, hypnotic African rhythms with soaring 3 & 4 part harmonies. Other performances by the 'Djembe Dun Dance Troupe', Rhythm of the Heat Choir, and a special performance by Lucynda's drumming students aged 3 to 60! The evening will be opened with a special didgeridoo player and dancer accompanied by the choir. This will be an amazing evening of rhythm, song, dance and connection between Indigenous cultures and people from all walks of life. All money raised will be donated direct to the charity.

    2003 National Tour Launch
    Virtuoso guitarist, pianist, composer and arranger Arthur Gracias has developed a unique jazz/ blues impro sound with a distinctly Indian flavour, and performed with greats including Herbie Hancock, Gunther Klatt, Steve Lacy, Tadahiro Wakabashi and Irina Shumilina. Considered one of the finest guitarists in his native India, he now resides in WA and mesmerizes audiences with his technique, style and original sound of Indo-jazz fusion. Gracias will be accompanied by the brilliant, Indian-trained Tabla player Vicky Ramakrishan, disciple of the great Ustad Harif Mohammed Mirajkar.

Featuring Penny Ross (mandolin), Robert Schulz (classical guitar, mandolin, bouzouki), Robert Kay (acoustic bass guitar) and Jim Elliott (steel string guitar, mandolin, bouzouki), StringyBach performed to enthusiastic crowds at the Fairbridge Folk Festival earlier in 2003, and now make their welcome debut at KULCHA.

    This will be the first event of the Austalasian Fleadh (pronounced 'flaah'), which will consist of a week of Irish Traditional Culture. This first night showcases local talent in an event consisting of traditional Irish Music, Song and Dance brought to you by the Perth branch of Comhaltas (Irish Music organisation). You will be entertained with a wealth of toe-tapping jigs and reels, mournful airs, powerful songs and enthralling dancing.
