Tanzania: The Pride of Africa
|
The final Fiesta Kultura Emerge event for 2001 is from Tanzania. The Tanzanian community will present traditional cooking, hair plaiting, table markets, exhibitions of Tanzanian artifacts including colourful khangas and a photographic corner displaying Tanzanian landscape and the Tanzanian community living in Perth. A fashion parade of khangas and traditional ceremonial dress including Maasai full dress with beads along with drumming, ngoma, music and dance will celebrate this rich and diverse culture. |

Que? - Brazilian Summer Cool Bossa Nova and sultry Samba combine with the highly infectious Brazilian rhythms of Baiao and Maracatu. Flavoured Sounds - music to make your mouth water Flavoured Sounds, one of WA funkiest recording studios moves out of the studio and onto the KULCHA stage creating a night of deliciously captivating music. Jason Millar and Luke Read will tantalise you with acoustic 6 and 12 string guitar and djembe solos, then groove onto a collection of African percussion and chants. Following will be sol, dub and rock featuring guitar, textured bass lines and guest vocalists. Finally, feast on an intoxicating brew of spacious funk and electronica. |

Tabla Dances Brisbane based artist Shen Flindell has studied the tabla for the last 7 years mostly under Kaviraj Asutosh Bhattacharya in Varanasi, India. In 1997, Shen was initiated as a gandabandhan disciple of the Varanasi Gharana. Shen is most renowned for his concerts titled the "EthnoSuperLounge" recently released onto a CD of the same name. Joining Shen will be local artists Supratic Mukherji on tabla and the beautiful Bavany Shivakumar performing Bharthanatyam, a stunning collection of southern Indian dances. . |

Myrtle - back from Europe The first show back in Perth after returning from a successful whirlwind tour of Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Marseilles, Milan and London. Myrtle is a three-piece band who describe their music as "trippy electronic soul" or "trip hop". Their cool electronic grooves created by Craig Tracy combine with the gorgeous vocals of Nadia Nassif and the sophisticated cello of Melanie Robinson to become a lush musical experience. This newly formed jazz quintet comprising of some of Australia's leading jazz musicians was inspired by Roy Hargrove's quintet in New Orleans. Matthew Jodrell (trumpet), Carl Mackey (saxophone), Grant Windsor (piano), Sam Anning (bass), and Daniel Susnjar (drums) have performed in Europe, India, New Zealand and throughout Asia and America, including the famous Carnegie Hall (New York). Supported by Tight Like This, this is jazz that will make the port city jump. | |||||||||||
