Fri 3 September 8pm HUAIRA COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT Huaira is a word derived from the Incan language Quechua meaning 'The Wind'. This five-piece group have been together since 1984 and play a wide variety of South American instruments including Zampo¤as (panpipe), Charango (10-stringed instrument made from Armadillo shell and wood), Quena (vertical flute), Bombo (Llama/Sheep skinned hollow trunk), guitar and mandolin. Sun 5 September 3.30pm CARMEN CILLIERS Exhibition Launch Exciting and contemporary South African born artist, Carmen Cilliers, asked herself a question, "How far do we need to travel to be on Safari?" After months of exploration and hard work, Cilliers brings together a collection in response to this question - an exhibition that fuses an eclectic mix of cultural influences and imagination in a body of work entitled Urban Safari. Cilliers combines the freedom and brashness of the colours of Africa with the humour and laid-back lifestyle of Australia while still taking risks and producing images that are expressive, quirky and bold.
