Fri 12 March 8pm DAVE CLARKE AND IVAN ZAR BEYOND MISSISSIPPI Mississippi distilled African music into blues, spreading north to Chicago and over to Europe. Eventually it reached Australia, where two young misfits found an identity in this dark troubled music. The rural blues hooked Dave Clarke, learning harp, guitar, mandolin and violin, while harp and slide-guitar became Ivan's life. Together with washboard virtuoso John Johnstone, and Jesse Woodward on Double Bass and banjo, they retrace their professional journeys in the blues. Sat 13 March 8pm WALA This exciting percussion and dance ensemble present a high-energy and dynamic performance featuring drumming, dance, percussion and soaring vocal harmonies. Wala means 'life' in the local language of their home town of Accra. Surrounded by about twenty drums played with hands, feet and sticks, Wala bring their instruments to life as they share a love of fusion of traditional Ghanaian music and dance.
