Statement from KULCHA Management

The Amnesty International ARTillery Youth Arts Event, which included the play Seven Jewish Children, was to be performed at KULCHA on Saturday 14 November, 2009.

The play was withdrawn by Amnesty International following complaints from the local Jewish community that the play was offensive to them.
KULCHA encouraged a dialogue between all parties including Amnesty International WA and the Jewish Community Council of WA. The purpose of the dialogue was to find a mutually amicable solution to the situation - which is what eventuated. The outcome of those discussions was that Amnesty International chose to withdraw the play.

The Board of KULCHA Multicultural Arts WA has reaffirmed the commitment that KULCHA must uphold and practice reconciliation and cultural inclusivity. Hosting of the above play is not consistent with that focus.

CLUB SOUNDTRACK - SLEEPWALKING THROUGH THE MEKONG

KULCHA and RTRFM's Club Soundtrack film and DJ series continues with the stunning documentary Sleepwalking Through the Mekong.

Sleepwalking Through the Mekong follows Los Angeles band Dengue Fever on their recent journey to Cambodia to perform 60s and 70s Cambodian rock 'n' roll in the country where it was created and very nearly destroyed.

More than a rockumentary, the film serves up a portrait of modern Cambodia as the band tours through Phnom Penh and beyond, crossing a great cultural chasm with the same spirit of Cambodia's original rock pioneers.
